What’s something you’re looking forward to?
Now, not really that unusual a question, although given the times we’re in, there’s not a lot of amazing answers at the moment coming through.
Sitting in a meeting today, ‘virtually’ and everybody at the table has had all their holiday plans cancelled, doesn’t matter where they were going, they’ve all had them cancelled.
And so not a lot of us have got things that we’re looking forward to.
But yet on the flip side, my son is turning 10 in a couple of weeks.
And I reckon for about two or three months he’d said to me that he wants a new ‘Oodie’, they’re those wearable blankets.
He’s already got one, but there’s a new style that he wants.
And I swear since making that decision about buying it, he has been so excited.
And his birthday is in two weeks.
So as much as he’s looking forward to getting it so he can wear it.
He also said “ah but you know, I’ve been looking forward to it for so long, once my birthday comes, what am I going to look forward to?”
And I thought, wow, that’s a really profound insight coming from someone so young.
But it’s so true that we need things to look forward to.
I mean, half the fun of planning a holiday right is looking forward to it.
So with a lot of the bigger things getting kyboshed at the moment by the world that we’re in, what are even some small little tiny things that you could do, that you could look forward to?
So it really made me reflect.
And there’s a girl, she’s one of the State Managers at Synchron called Sarah Congdon.
And I just adore this woman.
And she and I had spoken about roller-skating.
And she’s got this funky, floral pair of pink roller-skates, I’m so totally in love with them.
And we were talking about them the other day.
And I thought you know what, I’d love to roller-skate again.
I’ve got a milestone birthday coming up later this year.
And I want a roller-skating party.
I know it’s not the normal thing, I don’t even know if I’ll get to do one.
So knowing that because of lockdown, I might not get to do one, this is what I bought the other day.
I’m so excited.
I bought these bad boys.
My own pair of roller skates.
Now, here’s the thing.
I don’t know if I’m ever actually going to wear them, right?
I haven’t roller-skated since I was 13 and it’s been a long time.
But as Sarah and I discussed, worst possible, if I don’t even like literally put them on and go roller-skating, they can become an ornament that sits on one of my shelves.
It’s a beautiful talking point.
But most importantly, when I look at them, just looking at them, makes my heart get excited.
So what could that be for you?
What is it for your clients?
What are they looking forward to even something teeny tiny?
Whether it’s an Oodie or rollerskates, or something else?
It’s so important that we have even little things to look forward to.
To keep us going when the times are tough.
So I’d love to know what it is for you?
I’d love to know, what are some of the ideas that others that you’ve asked the same question to are coming back with.
Because I’ve loved hearing some different stories when I’m asking the same question.
So I’m asking you, what’s something that you’re looking forward to?
Because after all, You are Valuable!
