PRACTICAL IDEAS TO LEARN, TRY AND DO

Why saying “I’m so busy” can harm your business [VIDEO]

Here’s a short video (just over 2 minutes) with a practical idea to help your business grow.

I’ve also included the written version if you prefer to read it.

Give it a go – and make every minute count!

Today’s video is a little reminder that when you say how busy you are, you may be sending the wrong message to your clients and referral partners and it could be harming your business

MAKE IT COUNT – PRACTICAL POINTERS TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS IN ONLY MINUTES

I’m so busy.

Have you ever asked someone how they are and had them respond with “I’m so busy”.

Or has anyone ever said “how are you?” or “how’s things going”, and you said “I’m so busy”.

Yeh, I bet you have.

And the problem is that it can be sending the wrong signal to people that you don’t want to think that you’re busy. Ok.

So, we get it. Most people are busy nowadays, I don’t know anyone who is not busy, it does not matter what they’re doing, they’re busy.

So if you’re saying that to potential referral partners or maybe to clients who were considering sending referrals your way or introducing you to their friends or family then when you say that you’re giving them the signal that yep… I’m too busy, I can’t take on any more clients or any new business at the moment.

Now you might not finish it with that ending.

But that’s what they’re assuming.

That’s what’s being implied by you saying “I’m so busy”.

So you need to be really careful because the only time you want to be saying “I’m so busy” is when it’s because you were so highly in demand and sought after that you can barely keep up with the work.

But again, you’ve got to finish that sentence.

I’m so busy because… we’ve got this new offer that we’re bringing to market and it’s so valuable that everyone wants a bit of it.

But most people when they say “I’m so busy” it stops there and then everyone has their own chance to finish that story or finish that sentence.

And it usually means “I’m so busy I can’t take on any more work”.

So be really careful about when you say it or do what I’ve done… I’ve tried to completely eliminate those words from my vocab

And I’ll tell you what, having done that, it’s really interesting to see people’s reactions or to see how many people actually reply with “I’m so busy”.

It’s like wow, can’t you say something else, replace it.

Replace it with something like “I’m working on some really interesting things at the moment or I’m developing something new that I’m going to be bringing to my clients.”

Or yeah I’ve been spending my time doing X Y and Z.

Anything! Not, I’m so busy.

Anyway, if you want to give the right signal to the right people, make sure that you don’t give them the wrong message by letting them think that you’re too busy to take on more business.

Whatever you do that Make It Count.
